ONION MEP HIKED BY $55 FOR SEPT.
Posted in News |
NEW DELHI, SEPT 2: THE Union government has raised the minimum export price (MEP) of onion by $55 a tonne for September.
The sharp hike in onion MEP is understood to be aimed at curbing large-scale exports.
After the latest hike, the average MEP for onion comes to $275 a tonne.
In August, the government increased the MEP by $20 a tonneĀ which remained unchanged at $200 a tonne since April.
An official of the National Agricultural cooperative Marketing Federation (Nafed) said that a further upward revision of MEPĀ may be considered after monitoring the retail prices for two weeks.
